Elon Musk, chief executive officer of electric vehicle maker Tesla, said on Sunday that the US company will accept Bitcoin payments again when the virtual currency is greener.

전기차 제조업체 Tesla 최고 경영자 Elon Musk는 일요일에 가상화폐가 더 친환경적일 때 미국 회사가 비트코인 지불을 다시받을 것이라고 말했습니다.

 

이 미국 제조업체는 2월에 고객이 3월 말에 가능해진 옵션인 암호화폐로 지불할 수 있다고 발표하면서 큰 인기를 얻었습니다.

The American manufacturer caused a sensation in February when it announced that customers could pay in cryptocurrency, an option that became possible at the end of March.

 

But then Musk changed his mind, indicating that Bitcoin was no longer accepted - in the interest of protecting the environment.

그러나 Musk는 환경을 보호하기 위해 비트코인이 더 이상 허용되지 않는다는 마음을 바꿨습니다.

"When there's confirmation of reasonable (50-percent) clean energy usage by miners with a positive future trend, Tesla will resume allowing Bitcoin transactions," the billionaire wrote on Twitter on Sunday.

 

Bitcoins are produced by powerful computers that have to solve equations and consume huge amounts of electricity in the process.

과학 저널 Nature는 최근 세계 암호화폐 거래의 거의 80%에 전력을 공급하고 일부는 석탄화력 발전소에서 운영하는 중국의 비트코인 광산이 국가의 기후 목표를 위태롭게 할 위험이 있다는 연구를 발표했습니다.

The science journal Nature recently published a study showing that China's Bitcoin mines, which power nearly 80 percent of the world's cryptocurrency trade and run in part from coal-fired power plants, risk jeopardizing the country's climate goals.

 

Musk on Sunday reacted to an article raising the possibility that with his tweets, which regularly move the value of Bitcoin in one direction or another, he is manipulating market prices for the benefit of his business.

Musk는 일요일에 비트코인의 가치를 한 방향 또는 다른 방향으로 정기적으로 이동시키는 트윗을 통해 자신의 사업을 위해 시장 가격을 조작할 가능성을 높이는 기사에 반응했습니다.

 

"이것은 부정확하다"고 그는 말했습니다.

"This is inaccurate," he said.

"Tesla only sold 10 percent of holdings to confirm Bitcoin could be liquidated easily without moving the market.

The US automaker announced in early February that it had invested $1.5 billion of its ample cash in Bitcoin and has since sold part of it.
